The University of Arizona (UA) is committed to ensuring that our housing facilities, programs, and services are accessible to all students. Accommodations include, but are not limited to:
- ADA accessible rooms or bathrooms: includes accessible toilet, sink, and roll-in shower equipped with an unpadded, fold-down bench
- Fire strobe equipped rooms
- Attached/suite bathrooms for close bathroom proximity or increased privacy
- Single rooms
- Private bathroom
- Remote automatic door openers
How to Request Accommodations in the Dorms:
- Complete the housing application as soon as possible
- Complete the DRC Accommodation Request Form and submit any disability documentation
- Review Dorm Access Features
After speaking with an Access Consultant at DRC to determine an appropriate accommodation, DRC will work with Housing & Residential Life to assign you to a space on campus that is most accessible. It is not necessary to provide requests or medical documentation to Housing & Residential Life.

Housing & Residential Life is committed to fostering inclusive communities. We recognize the need to provide housing options that meet the diverse needs and interests of students. Open Housing is intended to create a comfortable living environment for students interested in living with someone of a different gender identity and/or where gender is not a consideration in room assignments. Room assignments are based on students’ preferred room gender. Housing provides three room genders for students: Open Housing rooms, Female rooms and Male rooms.
- Open Housing rooms accommodate students interested in living with someone of a different gender identity and/or where gender is not a consideration in room assignments. Open Housing rooms are available in most dorms.
- Female rooms accommodate female students together. Female rooms are available in all dorms.
- Male rooms accommodate male students together. Male rooms are available in most dorms.
- We have open housing rooms in all dorms EXCEPT Arizona-Sonora, Coconino, Manzanita-Mohave & Maricopa.
Aspiring leaders and officers of the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines have the opportunity to live in a ROTC wing in Cochise, right next door to South Hall, home base for all ROTC offices and activities. This is a great opportunity to live with students sharing similar goals, aspirations and schedules. You and your wing-mates will share similar “rise & shine” schedules—up before 0600 for physical training several times a week; classes in military sciences; and a strong commitment to serve your community and country.
To live in ROTC Housing, submit your housing application and apply via the ROTC application available in January. Space is limited and is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Commit today to reserve your space!

Honors students who have been admitted to the W.A. Franke Honors College are eligible to live in the Honors Village community in the North District of campus. Featuring dorm and apartment-style housing for more than 1,000 students, the North District complex hosts an in-dorm dining facility, recreation spaces, an interior courtyard, Campus Health Service Counseling & Psych Services (CAPS) satellite, Honors College offices, a Campus Recreation Center, honors classrooms, and more. There is an additional Honors community at Coconino dorm, "Honors @ Coco."
Housing & Residential Life offers Gender Inclusive Housing (GIH) in cluster communities that provide a safe and supportive living space for transgender, gender non-conforming, and questioning students. GIH provides a supportive and inclusive living environment where a student can room with any other student, regardless of sex, gender, gender/identity expression, or sexual orientation. GIH rooms are clustered together within a wing or floor in some dorms. Assignment to a cluster community is based on availability. All rooms in GIH cluster communities are Open Housing rooms.
Transfer Cluster Community provides a supportive environment where transfer students can live with others who are on a similar transitional journey. Transfer students at the University of Arizona for the first time in addition to others who have transferred in previous years are welcome to live in the Transfer Community.
Living in the Transfer Community is optional; transfer students can live in any dorm they choose.
To live in the Transfer Community, submit your housing application and apply via the Transfer application available in January. Space is limited and is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
